The LGBTI Stakeholder Group
An opportunity for LGBTI+ advocates and allies to drive efforts toward the inclusion of the LGBTI+ community in the Sustainable Development Goals and the Agenda 2030.
What
we do
The LGBTI Stakeholder group is one of several Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) that inform and shape the development and adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: The 2030 Agenda is a plan of action developed by the United Nations in 2015 that established the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The global achievement of the 17 SDGs is reviewed annually at the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development (HLPF). This political space is an opportunity for Major Groups and other Stakeholders, including the LGBTI Stakeholder Group, to inform the world about the lived realities, developments, and policy recommendations of the communities we represent.
The LGBTI Stakeholder Group serves as a key platform for the LGBTI community to actively engage in various UN processes related to sustainable development. For example, we organize monthly virtual meetings, maintain an active listserv, and gather in person, typically during the HLPF. In the months leading up to this event, we increase the frequency of our meetings to prepare and strategize on how to effectively engage with both the thematic and country reviews that shape the forum.
Moreover, we also provide a space where advocates from diverse regions can connect, exchange ideas, share knowledge and strengthen their efforts through capacity building, best practices exchange, and ongoing dialogue.

The LGBTI Stakeholder Group is organized as a coalition of civil society organizations from all regions, united in advancing the rights of LGBTI+ people and promoting their inclusion in the field of sustainable development.
It provides spaces for collective advocacy, mapping the state of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation, and addressing the inclusion of LGBTI+ issues, alongside the challenges and potential solutions in these areas.
Join the group
LGBTI activists who are part of the LGBTI Stakeholder Group can connect and exchange ideas and experiences through monthly online meetings, resource sharing and participation in sustainable development and UN-related events.
