The LGBTI Stakeholder Group's key priorities for the SDG Summit at the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda

The 2023 SDG Summit marked the halfway point to the 2030 Agenda and aimed to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, LGBTI people continue to face systemic exclusion, widening inequalities, and backlash against their rights. To combat these challenges, we call on governments and stakeholders to prioritize the following recommendations:

Key Recommendations:

  1. Full Inclusion in SDG Implementation
LGBTI people must be actively included in decision-making, policy development, and monitoring of the SDGs to ensure effective and equitable progress.

  2. End Criminalization and Pathologization
Governments must eliminate laws that criminalize or stigmatize LGBTI persons, which fuel discrimination and exclusion from development initiatives.

  3. Improve Data Collection
Reliable, disaggregated data on LGBTI inclusion is essential to measure progress and address discrimination effectively.

  4. Protect LGBTI Human Rights Defenders
Activists working for LGBTI inclusion must be safeguarded in UN spaces and beyond, with measures to prevent reprisals and ensure meaningful participation.

By taking these actions, we can uphold the commitment to "Leave No One Behind" and ensure that LGBTI rights are central to sustainable development efforts.
